Sonoran Sunset near Ajo, AZ
For any you left reading this blog, our apologies again for letting the time and Facebook bleed into our travel log of on-the-road adventure and just our daily living. Since returning from the cruise, the gall bladder that now isn't and settling again into life in the RV park at Glen Eden, not much happened.

At the Strand in San Diego
That is not much happened until the stirrings of an old desire to "go camping" and simplify our lifestyle and  a chance meetup with an old RVing acquaintenance at Quartzsite in January changed our plans again. It was there we found out that another RVer we had known years before was thinking of selling his VW Westfalia camper. Nancy and I had begun our RVing life in a "Westy"  20+ years earlier and were we now getting too old too fast to not consider a return to this style of travel and camping at least one more time? Well, this 1984 diesel-powered Westy might be just what we need, as we're truly becoming aware of how fragile and short life really is. So, in February we bought this nearly 30 year old well-maintained, camper van. We left it with the sellers until we made our nomadic sweep of the southwest from Yuma and the annual dental visit, through Ajo and Tucson and back to the Phoenix area where our new traveling home awaited. We certainly enjoyed our winter travels to our usual destinations. It was great to catchup with old friends who have abandoned the nomadic life for occasional vacation trips in the RV and a more permanent  street address and a home with no wheels.

We added an extra room for bathing and a pair of 95watt solar modules.

So we took delivery in mid-March and hurried back to Glen Eden to set up for travel our new Westy and get the garden in.  Our first trip was for 3 days to San Diego and the Pacific Ocean. We returned back to GE and decided that this was a keeper and it was time to upgrade with solarpanels, a 12vdc refrigerator and new batteries. So over the next few weeks we did just that in preparation for a more extended trip to Arizona and Colorado to visit old friends and haunts in Prescott and Flagstaff and our daughter in Cortez. In fact that's the trip we're on right now.
With only 1600cc (49 hp) diesel engine we didn't go from sea level to 7500'ASL quickly, but we did get here eventually and gracefully. Thanks to all 5 speeds for the enjoyable view of the countryside:) Better to share the humor before the rude gestures of those wanting to climb hills faster than 20mph! Top speed: 55mph...weeeeeee!
That's all for this installment...hope to see you soon

Hey, Opened my blog to work on an update and found a new one, at long last, from you. Sounds like you are having fun with Westy....never to old to hit the road and enjoy the scenery. Things have finally settled into a comfortable pace in Ketchikan and I should have some updates soon.
